The Emergency Response Team is to be deployed as a reaction to an incident that requires specialized tactical responses within the correctional facility. This includes disturbances such as inmate riots, hostage situations, cell extractions, high-risk inmate transports, and searches for contraband. Any time the unit is activated, an ERT report is expected. Members of the Emergency Response Team are expected to abide by the department standard operating procedures until deployment is approved. ERT equipment may only be used once the Emergency Response Team is in an active situation triggering risk level 3 or 4.
Emergency Response Team Patrol is available any time when there are at least two (2) operators on duty together. This is a preventative, opposed to a reactive, method and involves ERT uniform and equipment being used.
